Grants to California municipalities, counties, and districts to achieve economic and health-related goals. Funding is intended for projects to enhance recreational opportunities in eligible areas throughout the State. The goal of the program is to attract visitors and to improve the health of state residents. Projects must be in rural areas of the State.
Eligible Projects and Priorities –¬†Acquisition and development, or development of land to:
Create new recreational opportunities in rural communities that have a lack of outdoor recreation infrastructure. Projects that support both economic and health-related goals for residential recreation and will attract out-of-town visitors will be given priority.New opportunities are the creation of facilities that currently do not exist, and may include but are not limited to:Accessible trails and bikeways for wildlife viewing or other significant drawsSports complexes that host travel ball tournaments and leaguesVisitor centers that interpret a significant historic or natural resourceAmphitheaters that support performing arts and other cultural recreation attractionsCampgroundsAccess to waterwaysAquatic centersFor more information on types of projects, see eligible costs, see for minorities
